THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVAL

PRICE: FROM £55

Thread Veins are also known as Spider Veins or Dermal Flares. They are broken blood vessels on the face and body and enlarged blood vessels that occur just beneath the surface of the skin.

The resulting red, web-shaped appearance gives them their common name, Spider Veins.

Thread Veins form when normal veins in the skin grow much bigger than their usual size.

They often occur on the face, near the ankle, over the inside of the knee and outside of the thigh. Thread veins may occur in the region where a minor injury has caused a bruise. Once this has healed, thread veins stay in its place.

Thread Veins may run in some families; may begin during hormonal surges i.e. at the onset of periods and during pregnancy; occur due to varicose veins.

Other common causes are exposure to extreme weather i.e. sun exposure or wind exposure. They have also been linked to alcohol consumption and environmental irritants.

DOES THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVAL HURT?

The treatment relatively painless and rarely requires any local anaesthetic. However, if the Thread Vein is large or you are concerned, a numbing cream can be applied before treatment. After treatment the skin left behind may be tender for a few days and will need to be covered. It is also best to use a strong sunscreen on the area.

IS THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVAL SAFE?

Thread Vein removal is completely safe and is only carried out by a qualified Aesthetician in a clinical environment using IPL (Intense Pulse Light). We work to strict protocols exceeding all regulatory and clinical requirements.

WHERE ON MY BODY CAN I HAVE TREATMENT?

You can have Thread Veins removed from anywhere on your body.

CAN I HAVE MY THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVED JUST BECAUSE I DON’T LIKE THE LOOK OF IT?

Unless your doctor feels there is a medical reason not to remove your Thread Veins, we are happy to remove your Thread Veins for cosmetic reasons. We remove Thread Veins for a lot of clients who cannot receive the treatment on the NHS.

WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE?

The treatment will completely remove your Thread Veins.

WILL THE THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) COME BACK?

The treatment will permanently remove the Thread Veins. However, this will not stop Thread Veins from reoccurring in other areas in the future.

WHAT ARE THREAD VEINS (SPIDER VEINS)?

Thread Veins are the most common type of visible vein. Thread Veins are really small superficial veins that are in the outer layer of skin between the dermis and epidermis, so you can see them.

HOW DO YOU GET THREAD VEINS (SPIDER VEINS)?

Problems in the valves in your veins can prevent blood from flowing normally and cause Thread Veins.

Your heart pumps blood filled with oxygen and nutrients through your arteries to your whole body. Veins then carry the blood from different parts of your body back to your heart. Normally, your veins have valves that act as one-way flaps. But, if the valves don't close correctly, blood can leak back into the lower part of the vein rather than going toward the heart. Over time, more blood gets stuck in the vein, building pressure that weakens the walls of the vein. This causes the vein to grow larger.

Your risk of Thread Veins may be higher if you:

  • Have a family or personal history of Varicose Veins or Thread Veins. In one small study, more than half of women with Thread Veins had a parent with Thread Veins too.

  • Sit or stand for long periods. Sitting or standing for a long time, especially for more than 4 hours at a time, may make your veins work harder against gravity to pump blood to your heart.

  • Are overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese can put extra pressure on your veins. Women who have obesity are more likely to get Thread Veins than women with a healthy weight.

  • Are pregnant. During pregnancy, the amount of blood pumping through your body increases to support your unborn baby. The extra blood causes your veins to swell. Your growing uterus (womb) also puts pressure on your veins. Thread Veins may go away within a few months after childbirth, or they may remain and continue to cause symptoms. More Thread Veins may appear with each additional pregnancy.

  • Are older. As you get older, the valves in your veins may weaken and not work as well. Your calf muscles also weaken as you age. Your calf muscles normally help squeeze veins and send blood back toward the heart as you walk.

  • Use hormonal birth control or menopausal hormone therapy. The hormone oestrogen may weaken vein valves and lead to varicose veins. Using hormonal birth control, including the pill or a patch, shot, vaginal ring, or intrauterine device (IUD), with oestrogen and progesterone, or taking menopausal hormone therapy, may raise your risk of Thread Veins.

  • Have a condition that damaged the valves. Blood clots in the legs or scarring of the veins can damage the valves

HOW WILL I FEEL DURING THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVAL?

At Aesthetics & Beauty we use IPL (Intense Pulse Light) to treat Thread Veins. The light generates heat in the veins, which causes the walls of the vein to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body and fade away. (This process can take several weeks after treatment)

In general, IPL affects the lower layers of the skin, rather than the top. This allows it to reach deeper structures, like the Thread Veins, without burning the surface of the skin. You may experience some minor discomfort during the process.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THREAD VEIN (SPIDER VEIN) REMOVAL?

You may notice some swelling or slight bruising but this is temporary and fades to reveal your newly clear skin.
