WHAT EXACTLY IS AN AHA CHEMICAL PEEL ?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids Chemical Skin Peels & Skin Resurfacing Peels are non-invasive treatments that remove the upper layers of dead and damaged skin and encourages skin cell regeneration.

Glycolic Acid & Lactic Acid work to dissolve the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together. This increases cell turnover and the skin becomes smoother more elastic and more even in tone and texture.

At the same time Glycolic Acid & Lactic Acid also stimulate your skin to produce more collagen. Collagen is the main structural protein of the skin and keeps it elastic and line free. Collagen starts to disintegrate as we age, making skin begin to sag and wrinkle. Replacing the collagen your skin has lost with age can help diminish common issues such as crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines, and vertical lines around the lips.

Of the two, Lactic Acid is the milder exfoliator. It is also a humectant, which means it helps the skin to retain moisture. It can be used alongside Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid to give the skin a plumbed up appearance and a beautiful, healthy glow.

A combined peel will effectively exfoliate, increase cell turnover and remove dead skin cells which will visibly improve firmness, texture and reveal brighter more youthful skin whilst helping the skin to retain moisture at a cellular level.

For our clients who are unsure or a have very sensitive skin a Baby Peel is available.

During your consultation, we will determine which peel will be most suitable for your skin type and to achieve the results you desire in the gentlest way for your skin. Before any peel is performed it is important that a patch test is carried out before commencing a full peel.
We recommend a baby peel, for your first treatment, to assist in assessing your suitability for chemical peel treatments.

Yes! AHA Chemical Peels can be combined with many of our treatments, such as our Facials or Shrinking Violet Wrap.

WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE?

You may start to see some results after your first session. Results will be more dramatic and noticeable once you’ve finished all your treatments.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE AN AHA CHEMICAL PEEL ?

The safest method to start skin peels is to build tolerance from a low percentage peel then then increasing the peel strength over a safe period. Building tolerance allows your skins pH to become custom to the acidic nature to the peels over time.
The skin tolerance building method consists of a treatment plan that is spread over a course of 8 treatments, either weekly or fortnightly.
Once tolerance has been correctly built, we can assess whether your treatment is sufficient or whether we need to further increase strengths in order to gain maximum results.

After a full course of treatments, to keep the excellent results we recommend a regular maintenance peel.

HOW WILL I FEEL DURING AN AHA CHEMICAL PEEL ?

Most clients feel relaxed during treatment, especially when you are laying on our luxury heated treatment bed.

As I am applying a chemical exfoliator to your skin (the peel) you will feel a slight stinging sensation, the peel loosens the bond of the old, dead skin only and is not peeling off your healthy, living skin. You may experience some tingling and redness but this will soon fade once the mask is applied. You skin may also feel slightly itchy after a treatment, this is perfectly normal as it's the skin regenerating itself. We regularly check that you are comfortable and enjoying the treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER AN AHA CHEMICAL PEEL ?

You shouldn’t experience any discomfort or actual skin peeling, as we work within your skins limitations and use a stabilising mask & products after the peel to stabilise your skin.

We do recommend that you purchase a set of Calming aftercare products (£25) which gives you everything you need; cleanser, toner, moisturiser, exfoliator (to be saved for after your treatment plan has finished) & face mask.

For excellent results use the Calming products throughout your full course of treatments.
